Membership and Benefits
New York Bowhunters, Inc. has several levels of membership, as well as a booster status available within the organization. It was very important for the organization to recognize the need to keep membership fees at an affordable level and to place an emphasis on the youth and supportive levels such as the NYB Booster and Life Members. The Benefactor level of supportive membership in NYB was approved by the membership in 2006, this change allows for those Life and Charter members who want to elevate their commitment within the organization and our promotion of bowhunting. Because of NYB’s competent leadership over the years, we have only raised our membership dues twice since our inception in 1991. With membership in the organization as high as 4,000 members, NYB has not only become the largest bowhunting organization in the state but also one of the largest in the country. We are very proud of our members and in the achievements of the organization thus far. Below, please review the various booster and membership levels available within NYB.
Regular - Membership · Cost - $20 per year, $36 for two (2) years or $52 for three (3) years. · Includes 4 quarterly issues of “FullDraw” magazine, annual pin, and membership card.
Life – Membership · Cost - $400, membership dues may be paid in full or by making ten (10) consecutive $40 monthly installments. · Includes 4 quarterly issues of “FullDraw” magazine, annual pin, and membership card.
Benefactor – Membership · Cost - $250 in addition to the $400 Life Membership dues. · Includes 4 quarterly issues of “FullDraw” magazine, annual pin, membership card and elevated status within the organization. Spikes – Membership · Cost - $10 per year or $300 Lifetime membership which at age 14 turns into a Lifetime Regular Membership of NYB, Inc. $300 may be paid in 10 consecutive $30 monthly installments. · Includes 3 newsletters, sticker (SPIKES), membership card and yearly NYB Inc. pin.
Ø Shooting Proficiency Program within Spikes
This program promotes shooting, practice, and consistency. It is not a competition but an individual award for shooting proficiency and skills. Highlights of the program are as follows: a) Must have a witness of shooting b) Must use an NYB, Inc. target (provided by NYB, Inc. at member’s request to the Youth Chair)
c) Arrows must be shot consecutively, for steps 1, 2, 3, and 4. Four (4) of 6 consecutive arrows must be in the respective circle. For step 5, it is 2 of 3 consecutive arrows.
d) All archers must complete shooting proficiency in the order set up and in consecutive order. In other words, start at step 1, then 2 and so on.
e) Anyone successfully completing a step must sign the target along with the witness, record the yardage and date and then send into the Youth Chairman.
f) Any archer that completes step 5 will be sent his/her award and be invited to the annual NYB, Inc. Banquet (at his/her own cost) to be recognized. We will try to recognize the youth by region. CHARTER- Membership
· Those members who started and formed the New York Bowhunters, Inc. This level of membership is limited to the original 17 members who formed the organization in 1991.
· Includes 4 quarterly issues of “FullDraw” magazine, annual pin, and membership card.
NYB Booster - Booster
· Cost - $30 per year, which includes a listing placed under the Booster section of “FullDraw” magazine. This section is broken up by regions and is typically located on the inside cover of the last page of “FullDraw” magazine.
· Includes 4 quarterly issues of “FullDraw” magazine, annual pin, a booster certificate (suitable for framing), application holder and a supply of NYB applications.
Other Benefits of Membership
Free Classified Ads - As an NYB member, you are entitled to free classifieds in our “FullDraw” magazine. Items should be hunting related and could include bowhunting articles, equipment, land, etc. Other items may be:
SWAP HUNTS - Write in what you as a member are willing to provide in a hunt and list what you would like in an exchange hunt or put open to suggestions.
DISCOUNTS - Any member or Booster who is willing to provide a discount on outdoor related items or related activities, i.e. guided, unguided hunts for NYB members. Normally displaying your NYB membership card would entitle you to the discount.
BITS & PIECES - New to town and need a place to hunt? Looking for a bowhunting partner? Need a limb for that obsolete bow? Putting a bowhunt together and need extra hunters? These and other topics can be listed in “FullDraw”.
Member Shots - Send your bowhunting photographs in for publication under our MEMBER SHOTS section of “FullDraw”. Photos should be in "Good Taste" with little or no blood showing, tongues tucked inside mouths, no tailgate shots etc. Photos taken in a natural outdoor setting are best, otherwise try and position game so that homes, roads, etc. are not showing in the background.
Whitetail or Bowhunting Stories - Send in your bowhunting or related stories for publication. Stories should be typed, but hand written stories that are legible are fine as well. Don't worry about proper spelling and punctuation as our editor’s review all submitted material for these items.
NYB Merchandise - Wear NYB merchandise, available from NYB, P.O. Box 619, LaFayette, NY 13084.
Reduced Rates - Your membership typically entitles you to receive reduced rates for quality publications such as Bowhunter Magazine and membership in the National Rifle Association. Save up to 25% by going through NYB. Contact the NYB office for a list of participating organizations.
